The
chalk hills of Kent have and continue to be
a major source of inspiration for me. I'm luckily enough to live on the
crest of the North Downs in North West Kent, some 200 meters above sea
level. All that separates me from the wide vistas of the weald below is
a dense, rich, green downland wood of Chestnut, Oak, Hazel, Ash, Birch,
Rowan and Yew and Beech and Hornbeam.
This
has been my home for over fourteen years now and I've seen it shift and grow
as I too have grown. To some extent the North Downs; the
chalk, sticky gray clay, the flint, the thin soil, nourished and feds me
spiritually. This land lies at the center of my expression of my
Druidry! This last little bit of wilderness here in the south-east corner
of England, calls out to the wildness of my souls intention.
At
the foot of the North Downs, not far from the Medway Valley, sits the
Coldrum Stones; a Neolithic Long Barrow, one of the best preserve sites
in the South-East. This Temple-Tomb, holds a magic and presence within
this landscape.
I
first found this site when I was just 11 years old, on a school trip,
now living within in just a 10 minute walk from the place, it a site
that I've grown to know and honoured the ancestors of this land and
indeed of my our bloodline.
Home
is more than a place where you live, love, feed and sleep, its a place
that holds you, were your soul loosens and breathes with the freedom of
the wind that rustles the leaves in the birch and hornbeam trees!
